Bubbe’s Remedies – Old Fashioned, you say? Way back, when health insurance meant finding a job that did not require exposure to the elements regardless of weather conditions, staying away from coalmines or steel factories, or just having enough food to sustain oneself. Way back, when doctors were scarce, drug store shelves inadequately stacked, and money in short supply. Way back then, when one of us hurt, contracted a cold, ached somewhere, or just felt in need for some TLC (tender loving care), our first inclination was to call on our grandmother, Bubbe. Indeed, without fail, Bubbe knew exactly what was to be done. With an examining look, a touch of lips to our forehead, a soft caress of our extremities she determined the “gravity” of the situation, and the precise regimen to be followed. As you may suspect or know from your own “Bubbe” experience, whether it was one of her concoctions or just her knowing ways and wonderful hands… Bubbe’s remedies worked! The odd thing is that they still work today. So check out Bubbe’s remedies from Poison Ivy Treatment to easing arthritis pain. This section is dedicated to all our Jewish Grandmothers who, in their old fashioned ways, mended our wounds, healed our bodies, and warmed our hearts. If your grandmother, aunt, or neighbor revealed an old-fashioned remedy to you, and you would like to share it with us all, please send it to info@zeigezunt.com
