Zei Gezunt, Be Healthy
Editor: Yael Rosenberg, RN, B.S.H.A

Zei Gezunt, Yiddish for "be healthy," is an well-wishing idiom often bestowed by  Mame Loshen speakers. Gezunt, Health and well being, and all that has to do with the sturdiness of mind and body, is a very Jewish thing. Since the middle Ages, Jews have regarded medicine as one of the most honorable professions, and many pursued it with passion. Why the attraction between Jews and the healing profession? Can it be attributed to the ambition of Jewish mothers? Perhaps.  But more likely,  the fascination has its roots in the Jewish attitude toward life. Life is sacred, therefore health must be preserved.

Get wise about prevention, fitness, healthy-living, Jewish genetic diseases, and even a dose of Bubbe’s remedies. Zei Gezunt, and be happy!
